FARMER'S STORIES

KINTU SAIFI

Mr. Kintu Saifi a 73 year old and resident of Kalinga village, Buwunga Sub-county Masaka City, is one of the beneficiaries of the MADDO Dairies cow program. As an old man in the village, Mr. Kintu Saifi largely relies on farming to take care of his family. He is stationed on 7 acres of land where he grows both food and cash crops which he sells to earn a living. He and the wife have 11 children some of whom have already grown up and started their own families while others are still depending on him.  Kintu Saifi testifies the impact of the MADDO Dairies cow program as a realistic blessing to the poor families.

It was just a few months after receiving my cow from MADDO Dairies when the Covid-19 pandemic came in and the whole country put to a lockdown. By the time the lockdown was lifted, the economy was really bad. As for me with a very big family, I would surely be worried about how I would go through the next years. Looking at the number of children I had to pay school fees for and taking care of the entire big family.  Had it not been the cow I had received from MADDO Dairies, I surely have no idea how bad the situation would be.

NAKAWOYA BENAH

With a family comprised of 11 members 8 of them being grandchildren and three her remaining children, I do not think I would be able to provide even a half of their needs had it not been the cow. Life would really be so hard. The cow is acting as a pivot for the rest of the  income generating projects I have, milk sales put aside, the manure fertilizes the soil were we grow maize and matooke hence high yields and income from maize sales and matooke for consumption.

This cow has had a great impact on my life and that of my family at large. I am a widow and currently the head of my family and the sole provider for my family. I have been able to educate my grandchildren in good private schools with good standard using the income generated from the cow and its products and being in my late age of life I am able to afford the medicine to cater for my health and also the income assures the medical facilitation for my family too especially for my grandchildren.
